A Surprising Tween Birthday Party!

After years of well orchestrated parties planned way in advance, it was time to simple it down. My daughter was turning 12! She had just read the books by Wendy Mass, ’12 Finally’ and ’13 Gifts’ and, although I hadn’t read the books, they struck a chord with me. Why not 12 Gifts for her twelfth birthday and, in each gift, a Birthday Party activity. I had my daughter list all of her favorite things and picked twelve of them to share with friends.

Here is what our list looked like:

  1. movies
  2. Starbucks
  3. Menchies frozen yogurt
  4. drawing
  5. sleepovers
  6. Red Robin
  7. baseball
  8. games
  9. books
  10. chocolate
  11. music
  12. Birthdays

Next up … invitations! We designed and printed them at home to look like the ’12 Finally’ Book Cover.

Then it was time to prepare the gifts … here is what we came up with:

The last gift was a Sleepover Box full of fun stuff like:

  • microwave popcorn
  • Pirate’s Booty
  • Red Vines
  • glow sticks
  • candy bars
  • movie

We wrapped each card with the necessary supplies. It was a pretty impressive pile!

On party day we had the guests fill out a sheet like this:

They got to guess the Birthday girl’s favorite things!

Then the girls took turns opening the gifts. We did each activity as they opened them. The fun part was we didn’t know which gift they would open first! (I did know which gifts were things to drive to and threw them in the car so we weren’t driving back and forth so much.)

At the end of the party, the friend who had guessed the most favorites won a prize!

This party took a little prep work but once party day was here we all got to enjoy the day as it came! So. Much. FUN!

The awesome part is you can do a party this way and spend a little or a lot depending on the activities you choose!
